Two-Year Colleges

What is a University?

  • Offers undergraduate and graduate degrees.
  • Graduate programs:
  • Master’s degree or a Ph.D.
  • May have a medical or law school for students wishing to pursue professional degrees.
  • Some universities offer special programs where their students can earn both an undergraduate degree and a graduate degree in a reduced amount of time.

What is college?

  • Community college, junior college, or technical
  • Usually award certificates or associate degrees
  • May allow guaranteed transfer to four-year colleges or universities
  • Have limited housing if at all
  • Are often significantly cheaper and close to home

Example: Central Georgia Technical College Macon ,GA

  • A college is a smaller institution that typically offers undergraduate degrees
  • (Bachelor Degree)
  • Community colleges and junior colleges: may offer only two-year degrees
  • (Associate degree)
  • Most colleges offer bachelor’s degrees, and some colleges also have associate degrees.

  • Focus on a particular faith
  • Students may or may not practice religion to attend.
  • Religion and theology incorporated into curriculum.
  • Some may have behavior rules.
