Clothing
- Clothing in Verona during the renaissance age was drastically different than clothing now.
- The casual clothing was far more modest with women wearing long dresses and men wearing simple gowns.
- Some people even tried to compete with each other over clothing, by buying more and more expensive clothes.

- There were two and three story houses
- The wealthy families could afford high decorated ceilings and painted walls
- People lived and worked and close family units
- If you had money you could get a servant to do all the chores.
Servants
- Servants were peasants who worked in the lords manor house, doing the cooking and cleaning, laundering and doing other household chores.
- All the servants slept in a very large room.
- Only wealthy families had servants
The City of Verona
Economy in Verona, Italy
- They earned money from shipping industries of the town benefited from their position as trading link between east and west.
- They sold slaves, wood ,spices, silks ,salt and fish.
- They developed a strong fleet to protect their products in the Adriatic Sea and Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

- Verona got wealthy from the products they sold
- With that money they made distinctive Art, Sculptures and Architecture.
- Verona is located in northern Italy at the foot of the Lessini mountains on the river Adige
- Founded in 1st century B.C.
- Between the centuries of 13 and 15 Italy was controlled by several wealthy families who took leadership of areas in Italy rather than a central government.

- The holidays celebrated were Christmas, Liberation day, May Day
- May Day was for political parties to hit the streets and support their cause.
- Wealthy Families tried to out do each other during the holidays by throwing bigger parties.
- During these parties the rich and the poor talk to each other more freely.
Art
Artist: Paolo Veronese- The Feast in the House of Levi
- Verona was flourished under the rule of the Scaliger family in the 13 and 14 centuries.
- The population grew to 40,000 in the 14 century.
- Castelvecchio (Old Castle)-built with massive walls, towers, turrets, and a vast courtyard built for Cangrande II Della Scala in 1354
- Veronese art became famous for their use of light and color and its portrayal of space.
- It was the time of the Renaissance
- There where new ideas in science and literature.
William Shakespeare and Verona
- Verona would product one of the most famous playwrights, William Shakespeare
- He would go on to produce Romeo and Juliet, this play was the best known work related to Verona.
- The play is based around a multi-family feud and young lovers from rival sides in those families.
