Article Of the Week

Weekly Reading Assignments

Each week we do an AOW, Tic-Tac-Toe or Reading Logs. All these assignment help with reading comprehension and encourage us to read harder books.

We get articles about news events in today's society that we must annotate and reflect upon in order to gain a higher understanding of current events and how to communicate our ideas.

Reading Logs

Tic-Tac-Toe

Reading logs are week long reading assignments were students must read at least jklj

Week-long reading assignments where students must read at least 30 minutes for five days. We also must record a summary and answer a reflection question.

New assignments this quarter, every two weeks, where we must read a fictitious novel and reflect on it.

Literacy in Science!

We use literacy in every subject, especially science. Sometimes, we take notes which help with paraphrasing and summarizing, and the terms we must learn help us to grow more literate. When we're taking notes, we have to paraphrase and summarize long chapters in the textbook to pull out the most important details.

(Bradbury)." - Martia Williams

"Since most of this story is impossible for the time being, is set in the future, has controversial topics and exemplifies currently unattainable technology, the short story "There Will Come Soft Rains" is a profound piece of science fiction." - Kayla Cooper

Conclusion

"This evidence proves There Will Come Soft Rains is an excellent example of science fiction because it has controversial issues, like technologys purpose without humans, it is in the future, it is weaved around technology, like automatic toasters and it has made up events." - Josh Cooper

Types of Genre We've Read

There Will Come Soft Rains Essay

"There Will Come Soft Rains" is a short story written by Ray Bradbury is about a technologically advanced house that stands even after a nuclear bomb wipes out a city. This house continues serving the people that lived there with normal day activities such as making baths, cooking and cleaning. A fire starts in the house and the house cannot stop the fire due to the water being used up for the daily tasks. Eventually the house burns down after a great effort in order to save itself.

We wrote an essay on this story proving it's genre using three to four elements of the story that correspond with the genre. We also focused on the theme of this story which could have been many things ranging from "Nature will prevail in the end" To "Don't rely too much on technology" Throughout the this essay, students gained more knowledge on the ideas of how to construct an essay and how to determine genre and theme.

Examples of Writing from the

"American Revolutionary War" Essay

Thesis Statement:

Strong Arguments:

If it were not for Great Britain's strong government, British officials trying to keep the peace, Great Britain protecting the colonists in the French and Indian War, and the fact that the colonies were Great Britain's kin, would the colonies have survived? They should have stayed with Great Britain to make sure that they themselves did not perish, along with their faith in their government. - Kayla Cooper

"The king and Parliament yielded power well beyond contestation by anyone, especially colonists. - Kayla Cooper

"The defiance of North Carolinians towards legislature would have been treason since Great Britain was their mother country. - William Ojiambo

Counter Argument:

Conclusion:

"Patriots believed that they should have broken away from Great Britain because they took away their rights, by not giving them representation... The colonists were wrong to have betrayed Great Britain, because Great Britain had the sovereign power over America..." - Itzel Vazquez

"Great Britain would have benefited from the colonies being loyal by having more revenue, trade routes and land to call their own." - Kayla Cooper
