Weekly Reading Assignments
Each week we do an AOW, Tic-Tac-Toe or Reading Logs. All these assignment help with reading comprehension and encourage us to read harder books.
We get articles about news events in today's society that we must annotate and reflect upon in order to gain a higher understanding of current events and how to communicate our ideas.

"There Will Come Soft Rains" is a short story written by Ray Bradbury is about a technologically advanced house that stands even after a nuclear bomb wipes out a city. This house continues serving the people that lived there with normal day activities such as making baths, cooking and cleaning. A fire starts in the house and the house cannot stop the fire due to the water being used up for the daily tasks. Eventually the house burns down after a great effort in order to save itself.
We wrote an essay on this story proving it's genre using three to four elements of the story that correspond with the genre. We also focused on the theme of this story which could have been many things ranging from "Nature will prevail in the end" To "Don't rely too much on technology" Throughout the this essay, students gained more knowledge on the ideas of how to construct an essay and how to determine genre and theme.
