We have a strong focus on positive outcomes, and every child has a differentiated plan for their education, care and health. We follow the National Curriculum, but it is individually tailored to take into account each student’s Statement. We also support individual talents and interests, and extra tutoring is provided for this.
For Primary students who need a Nurture Environment
We are educating young people who are experiencing serious difficulties in their lives. With this in mind we believe implicitly in a holistic approach.
We believe the all behavior has a meaning and can have various sources, such as anxiety or low self-esteem.
We use reinforcement through encouragement and praise as our principle method of behaviour management.
Our approach is nurture-based, with positive management of behaviour, supported by a rewards system that helps promote positive outcomes.
We place each student in the right environment for his/her particular needs. We can do this because we have seven small schools on five separate sites, each catering for different needs. So we can place individuals in the site that best meets their needs.
Cressey has the highest staff-student ratio in the area. This enables us to achieve positive outcomes, in spite of challenging behaviour. There is a strong focus on improving literacy, numeracy and ICT skills, and on developing personal and social skills
Our purpose is to nurture the children emotionally, behaviorally and intellectually.
To do this we create an environment which is safe, secure and nurturing. Consistency and structure also play a big part in this.
We aim to educate and heal.
We believe that children have the right to be protected from harm and/or abuse, our policy follows the national guidelines on this.
Our pupils are particularly vulnerable and a high portion have experienced abuse. We must be vigilant and fastidious in dealing with all safeguarding issues.
We take reasonable, proportionate action when absolutly needed, using PRICE training for guidance. This is within the framework of positive behaviour management.
Throughout the main priority to is maintain the pupils and any adults safty and well as maintaining the dignity of the child.
A center of excellence for students with SEBD, additional complex needs and particularly challenging behavior.
At Cressey we both manage behavior and educate our pupils, this is at the core of our ethos and, with our pupils needs a thoughtf balancing act.
Something unique about Cressey; we are spread out over 7 different schools (over 5 different sites), each of which is tailored to the needs of its student group. Each site is also very small which helps our pupils to feel secure and comfortable.
For those who are particularly vulnerable and cant learn at all along side others
At our Coombe Cliff site we have 2 provisions...
For those who work better offsite, for examples this could be because they are able to attend mainstream college (but need support there) or because they experience anxiety which means attending school is too much for them.
For KS3 students who work best in small Nurture groups with their own classroom
"Nurture based, outcome driven - with tough love and boundaries. We succeed where other schools have been unable."
For KS4 and KS5 students who can work in small groups and benefit from some 1:1
For girls who are particularly vulnerable
Cressey brings together a hotpot of staff in various roles...
If we find ourselves not agreeing with a decision which has been made by a teammate, SLT or the team as a whole, lets share our views & discuss them, they matter, but if the decision sticks...
We must not discuss our views about the decision with the pupils/parents or in their earshot
We must be mindful of our body language and what we communicate with it
We must give a united front to the pupils, showing support to each other and the school strategies and policies at all times

In your groups you have a selection of pieces of information.
Please note who, within the staff team, you think each piece of information ought to be shared with.
Discuss in your groups as you go along:)
What brought you to Cressey?
Have you ever felt a pull between your values and the school values?
How can we manage situations when you do not share the views with a school approach?
