Alabama made it illegal for African Americans to preach. This affected all African Americans around the world in negative and positive ways. It was a positive message because it helped them realize that no matter how bad you think you have it someone has it worse than you. During the time Whites were scared for what was going to happen if the African American had the same rights as them. There were white people who thought they had it bad but then they thought "At least I'm not black." This just goes to show how terrible the situation was. It was a negative message because African Americans around the US including Washington when they heard what was happening they felt like they needed to do something about and a lot of the time it led to violence.

The Civil War

Around 200,000 slaves were freed or escaped from the Union army and around 20,000 were killed fighting. Many African Americans helped out people who hated them and disrespected them in many ways. Many lost their lives helping a country where they didn't feel welcome. They did the right thing they stepped up and said "We will help you through anything you want no matter how bad you treat us." They put faith into the whites. Hoping that one day they would realize that they are doing something terrible

Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21st of 1965. Malcolm X was a inspiration to all African Americans and people who realized what was happening was wrong. Just like martin Luther King Jr. he lead the African Americans into the right direction to fight for freedom. when blacks felt angered at something they remember what Malcolm X wanted.

African Americans from the south were recruited to mine in the pacific northwest. this job was one of the few available to the blacks at the time. There were very few white people who wanted to do manual labor so they thought it would be okay for the blacks to do it. They payed them the lowest yo could pay someone. The African American society was so desperate that they were willing to do the hardest and lowest paying jobs to benefit the whites.

During the year 1787 the US Constitution was drafted. It was made so that states had to aid slave owners for the recovery of fugitive slaves. It also made slaves 3/5ths of a man. This was passed for a shield for the incoming 20 years. This really changed the perspective that African Americans had on whites for the moment. Although it was still a huge issue the whites started to accept the African Americans into their life.

United States population 5,308,485. 1,002,037 black Americans and only 108,435 were free African Americans. During the time there were a lot of African Americans in the USA but very few were free. Population did not mean power. The Economy was not very strong due to the ethnic discrimination in The United States.

Mary Eliza Mahony became the first african american nurse. It was very hard to find jobs that weren't manual labor for African Americans at the time. Mary set an example and so did the whites. Most of the patients she had were white. The Whites put trust in Mary that she was going to help them the best she could. It was a very small thing but the puzzle would be incomplete without it. The job was what she wanted to do and she did the best she could so that she could get the job no matter what it took.

Benjamin Banneker's book "Almanac"

was the first science book published by a african american. It was a big push through for the African Americans. It showed that the sky is the limit. This shows how much a book can mean to not just one person but to the entire world and how people interact with each other.

In 1810 the United states congress prohibited free African Americans from carrying mail for the US postal service. During the time it was hard enough to find jobs as a African American but with the Congress banning blacks from the very few jobs that are avaliable to them builds up anger and isnt helping move forward as a country.

Jackie Robinson was one of the biggest and most touching stories in history. He got offered a spot to play professional baseball for the Brooklyn dodgers. He wasn't the best player for the negro league but they felt he would be able to take the hate better than the other people. He inspired many people from both colors. He led the league in hit by pitch, had many death threats, and took a lot of hate from everyone in the league. He used what he could to help him through the toughest thing a man can do. Throughout his experience the only thing he had was hope. He returned to baseball after serving in the US army. He showed dignity

The first black person to become a resident in Seattle was a a who goes by the name of Manuel Lopes. discrimination at the time made it hard for Manuel to get a job but that's what he came to face. he came to show that no matter what people give you its more than what you really need. The Laws that were put in place were to benefit states that had issues resulted in chaos and the states that didn't need laws to help them
