Pollution can effect many creatures, especially sea creatures. If water is polluted, it can put them in danger

In the end both short & long-term changes can:

  • Cause changes in individula traits (adaptation) in current and future generations of populaions
  • Just much more likely in long-term
  • Can be catastrophic and result in disapperance of a population in an ecosystem
  • Can be caused by natural events and human activity
  • Can result in positive and negative effects on populations
  • Can lead to adaptations and natural selection of species

Many animals would die in a drought, but desert animals such as camels can easily adapt. They can go for weeks without any water.

Drought

A drought is when an area goes without water for a long period of time and is caused by a lack of rain

BP Oil Spill

He is Trapped

Example-

Polar Bears live on ice, the ice is slowly melting and they are losing their habitat

The climate change can effect other organisms as well.

Parrot

Eats seeds so it has a hooked beak to crack them open

Toucan

Long Beak

(eat fruit)

How the Climate Affects a Birds Beak?

The weather can effect the size of a bird's beak, usually when it gets hotter, it grows, if the bird goes without food for a long time, it can also affect the beak

Long-Term Environmental Changes

A long-term environmental changes are... climate change, droughts, deforestation, urbanization, Earth’s orbit, Sun’s intensity, Global Warming, radioactive waste/pollution, extinction of species this could happen to anyone of the food webs.

Short-term and Long-term Environmental Changes

What is a Long-Term Environmental Change?

Examples of Short Term Changes

What is a Short-Term Environmental Change?

Environmental changes that occur slowly over time and effects organisms over generations

  • More likely to cause changes in population traits (adaptation) because it is long-term

Short-term environmental change is an environmental change that occurs quickly and effects organisms immediately.

  • Lasts for a short period of time
  • Not likely to cause changes in traits (adaptation) in populations because it is short term

Examples of Short-Term Environmental Changes

A short-term environmental change is smog, flooding, volcanic eruption, blizzards, and avalanches could happen in any one of the food webs.
