Our story begins when Juno(Hera) suspects that her husband Jove(Zeus) is cheating on her again, so she's decides to repeat her routine of punishing an innocent girl. And who was the 'oh so lucky' victim?
Echo the nymph.
The curse was this:
She would only be able to repeat what was already said. Which wouldn't be so much of a problem except Echo was a very chatty nymph, so this was extremely hard on her.
One day Narcissus went out
to the forest looking for his friends.
The man asked, "Anyone here?"
And Echo, only able to repeat what he said called back, "Here-here."
Narcissus thought that it was one of his friends so he yelled, "Come!"
So then Echo stepped out of the bushes and into his view saying, "Come!" and opening her arms up like she was going to hug him.
But Narcissus did not want to hug Echo, so he said, "No, I am not going to let you take possession of me!" But all poor Echo could do was say, appealingly, "Take possession of me!" But Narcissus had already left.
After that Nobody else came to see Echo, and she
slowly wasted away in the caves until only her voice remained, echoing what people said.
Even after death, as Narcissus was being taken across the River Styx, he leaned over Charon's boat and looked at his reflection in the water. Narcissus could not learn from his mistake, he died a very sad death.
Oh poor poor Qtim. May you rest in pieces.
Qtim. The extremely dizzy fly who had his legs ripped off and was then mercilessly tossed into a kleenex box that was then tossed mercilessly into the garbage. Mercilessly.

This story is about a self-centered man named Narcissus and the lovely, chatty nymph who was hopelessly in love with him. The nymph's name was Echo.
~
But Echo wasn't the only beautiful woman who was head over heels in love with Narcissus. Everyone longed to be Narcissus' special someone. He was just that hot.
But Narcissus rejected every woman who confessed their love to him! He just wasn't interested.

The Greeks Explanation for an 'Echo'
Narcissus continued on in life, being loved by many beautiful girls, but never loving them back. But one day, when he broke yet another woman's heart, she sent up a prayer to the gods: that he who could not love others should love only himself. The goddess who answered her prayer was called Nemesis.
So one day when Narcissus went to take a drink from the pool, he was suddenly transfixed with his own image, and not able to look away, even for a second. He sat there staring at his reflection for days, years, centuries! But then finally, one day, he died, still there at the pool. Echo, nearby, could only say "Farewell-farewell." saying goodbye to the man she had once loved.
I believe that the point or moral of this Greek myth is two things: One, the explanation for an echo existing, and two, that you should love others, and not be vain, or else you will be punished.
