History
- After World War II, 25 percent of the workforce was unionized (14.8 Million)
- After the war, strikes ensued from 1946-1947
- Result of that The National Labor Relations Act of 1935, also known as the Wagner Act, was amended.
- Creating the The Taft-Hartley Act of 1947.
The Basics
- Created measures to regulate unfair labor practices in relationship to the National Labor Relations Act.
- Prohibited jurisdictional strikes,wildcat strikes, solidarity or political strikes, secondary boycotts, secondary and mass picketing, closed shops, and monetary donations by unions to federal political campaigns
- Allowed individual States to pass right-to-work laws.
- Created free speech for employers, that was originally silenced by previous laws.
- Created the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service - for handling disputes.
