History of Verona

  • Origin of Verona remains a mystery
  • Verona had an alliance with Rome
  • Mainly due to it's geographical and strategic position, Verona was in the middle of it all.
  • Eventually, in 89 BC it became a Roman Colony
  • Since it was a Roman Colony, it has many roman structures, The most famous one being the Arena, an amphitheater.
  • After numerous invasions, Verona came under the rule of the Scala family in 1260
  • In 1405 it became part of the Venetian republic
  • After that, Verona was much sought after, between 1490 and 1516, Verona was handed to Spain, to France and finally back to the Venetian Republic.
