Individuals suffer the costs of conflict as they are often made to displace within their home country or internationally and are forced to give up sources of income and development.
When conflict occurs in or between major regions, often times the global spectrum is disturbed due to the migration of populations out of areas of conflict or the idea and argument of races and religions pitted against one another.
EXAMPLE: There are currently 6.5 million Syrian refugees internally displaced within their home country. As they get displaced they are forced
to leave jobs, education, homes and seek security and shelter elsewhere in the
country on their own.
EXAMPLE: The Palestine-Israel conflict has spread beyond its borders, ultimately bringing those that relate as either Muslim or Jewish to be confronted against one another and forcing others to take sides.
Individuals are often affected due to the occurrence of conflict within their countries by causing them to give up luxuries and sometimes basic rights, from education to proper housing or even sufficient food.
Individuals suffer economically at the
onset and aftermath of conflict as their source of livelihood becomes unavailable
or unsafe which hurts the availability of their necessities.
EXAMPLE: Due to the Yemeni civil war, the failed government in the country has been unable to provide the people with job opportunities causing the rise of unemployment. The lack of transport out of the country also causes many
to stay within Yemen instead of going out looking for jobs.
When conflict occurs the global society shakes as it often leads to ethnocentrism and change in global relations.
The occurrence of conflict in countries can often lead to a change in government, that is usually forced, affecting the relations of that country with others that it neighbors in terms of trade, borders etc.
EXAMPLE: After the emergence of the communist government in Cuba, its relations with the global society was changed, especially following the Cold War, after which sanctions were placed on them by the United States and tourism was discontinued until 2014.
When conflict arises in a country, the economics of that area is hurt as their
labor size and skill diminishes due to refugee outflows, infrastructure destruction, the trade embargo etc.
EXAMPLE: Due to the Ukraine-Russian conflict, the Ukrainian economy is left in ruins and might suffer for sometime if their trade relations with Russia continue to deteriorate affecting especially their energy and banking
sectors.
The rise of conflict in countries can lead to internal rebellion and uprisings which can further affect countries that are developing or underdeveloped by hurting their developmental process. These countries are then forced to shift their focus from improvement to solution hunting for a new problem or crisis.
The ongoing of conflict in countries can lead to environmental consequences leading to pollution rate increases to overuse of fossil fuels and other resources.
EXAMPLE: Due to the Vietnamese conflict with the United States’ “Agent Orange” plan, the Vietnamese mountain areas were affected due to degrading soils, damage to their trees and plantation areas etc.
