-Came from the word "sinfonia" is a composition for orchestra with four movements .

Four Movements of Symphony:

1. Fast and lively- usually written in duple meter

2. slow- written in Sonata form ABA

3. Fast- written in triple meter

4. heroic fast- sonata form of rondo form

The term Sonata was derived from the latin word " sonare" which means an extended instrumental work for a solo instrument with piano accompaniment. Usually written into four movements: Allegro- Fast movements, Adagio- Slow movement, Rondo- main theme, Sonata-allegro forms- refers to a single movement

Opera

Musical forms during the Classical Period

is an art of dramatic stage performance that incorporates typical elements of theater.Musics plays a dominant role in the opera.

Two kinds of Opera"

1. Opera Seria- where greek goddesses, heros, and gods are used as a subject

2. Opera Buffa- comic opera created and composed to depict common people with common problems or concerns.

Instrumental work for a solo instruments like piano, violin, trumpet and any other instruments, with the orchestra for the accompaniment.

Three movement forms of concerto:

1. slow sonata form- written in fats tempo

2. slow and lyrical- slow and song-like written in ternary form
