Our Trip to Guatemala

The Church and Surrounding Neighborhood

Stray animals are a large

problem in the city

Roofs are often held

in place by cinder blocks

Antigua...

  • Was filled with culture,
  • Had beautiful buildings,
  • Had many interesting, irreplaceable things to look at,
  • Had old, bumpy cobblestone roads,
  • Had a unique McDonalds,
  • Had lots of special things to buy,
  • And much, much more!

Thank you for listening!

This is where part of the house

collapsed into the ravine.

Preparations

Some Photos

We measured, cleaned, and organized the donated prescription eye glasses.

Drove back to Guatemala City and stayed at the Holiday Inn.

Drove to Monterrico and got settled into the dorms there.

Spent the next day helping

at the church and touring the surrounding neighborhood.

ANTIGUA

Rode a shuttle to the airport at 5:30 AM to go back home.

This is a picture of a large church in Antigua before September 29, 1717 when an estimated 7.4 magnitued earthquake hit and ruined it. It was so bad that authorities decided to move the capitol city from Antigua to Guatemala City.

Went to Antigua for the day to shop and be tourists.

Worked in the clinic for an average of 8 hours a day doing whatever people needed us to do.

Landed in Guatemala and got driven to David's house.

The Pharmacy

Measure drug prescriptions for people, mostly over the counter drugs you can find in the US but are very hard to come by in developing countries.

The Optometry Room

We measured many people for reading glasses.

The Dentist

The dentists and hygenists put fluoride on children's teeth. They don't have enough supplies to fill cavities.

Guatemala was an experience like no other, full of beautiful landscapes, and amazing Spanish architecture. But unfortunately it has some problems as well, specifically, many sick people in the country and they need help. So that is what we did. We helped them by providing medical checkups and medicine.

Tests

You take the patients blood pressure, temperature, a simple overview of why they're at the clinic.

HCT - tests for anemia

Blood glucose - makes sure that's not a symptom of an illness

Urine test - to see if they're severely dehydrated, pregnant, or have STDs

Some Tips for the Future
