B. Determination of The Acidity of Vinegar

1. Weigh three (3) empty Erlenmeyer flasks.

2. Pipette out 5.00 mL of vinegar sample into the weighed flasks.

3. Weigh the flask containing the vinegar.

4. Add 2-3 drops of phenolphthalein indicator and swirl.

5. Titrate the vinegar solution with the prepared NaOH solution until you obtain a faint pink color.

6. Calculate the % Acetic Acid in the sample.

7. Get the average % Acetic Acid.

Objectives

A. Preparation of 0.10 N NaOH

1. To prepare and standardize solutions for titration.

2. To determine the acidity of vinegar using standardized base solutions.

3. To learn proper use of burettes.

1. Calculate the mass of NaOH pellet needed to prepare 500 mL of 0.10 M NaOH solution based on the formula of Molarity.

2.Let your instructor check your calculation before proceeding with the next step.

Materials

3. Weigh the calculated amount of NaOH pellets in a small beaker as fast as you can.

4. Add enough distilled water to dissolve the pellets with stirring.

5. Transfer the resulting solution into 500 mL volumetric flask, washing the beaker with distilled water several times and collecting the washings in the flask.

6. Fill the volumetric flask, with distilled water, up to the mark.

7. Stopper the flask and invert several times to mix the solution
