Child Labor

Negative

  • factories payed them very low
  • they worked so many hours to where most of them didn't even have the basis of an education.
  • 12-14 hour shifts
  • Long working periods often caused deformities in their legs

Better Architecture

Positive

  • Since the improvement of iron making, larger buildings were made: factories, museums, and train stations
  • Bridges were able to be built

- Allowed connections to neighboring cities.

Industrialization

This is the process in which a society or country (or world) transforms itself from a primarily agricultural society into one based on the manufacturing of goods and services.

Infrastructure

Compare and Contrast

Globalized Economy

Negative

  • no sanitation codes
  • crime increase
  • overcrowded prisons
  • 39 cops to 10,000 people

Positive

  • Wider range of goods (lower prices)
  • Greater diverse population. ( a lot of people moved around for work)

When I would read the negative effects, of the Industrial Revolution most of the sites would make sure they have most of their coverage on children labor. They would do this because they know most people would not stand for this type of child abuse which would make them successful in playing with the readers emotions. The sites that i would use for the negative effects would also have some of their opinions unlike the ones that talked about the positives of the Revolution. In the sites that talked about the positive effects of the Revolution they had an absence of loaded language because all they were talking about was facts and facts only.

Not Enough Jobs

Negative

  • Weren't enough for all of the qualified workers

My Opinion

I believe that the Industrial Revolution was more positive than negative because we would not be the world we are today without it. Yes, their were harsh times of the Revolution but we as a nation and as a world came up with so many inventions that we still use today. For example anesthesia, without it people would still be felling the pain of all surgeries and other painful medical procedures. Another invention that has shaped our society today is the steam engine. We are able to sends good to each other from thousands of miles away which makes everything simpler. There are so many ways on how the Industrial Revolution was more of a positive thing than a negative.

Overcrowding

Negative

  • cities were overwhelmed
  • 6-9 people in one-room apartments
  • disease spread rapidly

Food Caning

Positive

  • First done by a French chef who wanted to preserve food for a longer period of time
  • A benefit was that this process helped sailors who were out at sea not starve and not get sick form rancid food
