- William Morris Davis was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 12th, 1850

- Davis was a founding member of the Geological Society of America and was acting president in 1906, and in 1911
- Also apart of the founding of Association of American Geography and was acting president in 1904, 1905 and 1909.
- Davis was a member of over 30 scientific societies
- 1879 Davis Married Ellen B. Warner of Spring field, Massachusetts
- After Ellen's death William married Mary M. Wyman of Cambridge, Massachusetts
- After Mary's death he married Lucy L. Tennant of Milton, Massachusetts, who luckily survived him.

- Retired in 1912 from Harvard, but continued as a guest lecturer at various universities throughout the rest of his life.

- Most American physical geographers and geologist adopted the Davisan approach
- His concept of Cycle of Erosion was introducted in to college and university curriculum and was included in textbooks from then on
- 1877 Davis became assistant to Nathaniel S. Shaler, a professor of geology
- 1879-1885 he was an instructor in geology
- 1885 was appointed assistant professor for physical geography
- 1890 Davis became a full-time professor of physical geography
- 1908 was a visiting professor for Berlin University
- 1911 was a visiting professor for University of Paris
