Jackie's Departure From The Army

Jackie's Birth

Having to leave UCLA

Jackie's army career didn't last long. He lost

his job when he refused to give his seat up on a military bus. When a white man asked him to move to the back of the bus he refused. He was promptly arrested and later removed from the army.

Going To high school at Muir Technical High School-

Jackie Roosevelt Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. He was the child of Mallie and Jerry Robinson. He was the youngest child of 5. Then Jackie's father soon left the family, and then he was raised by a single mother.

Jackie Robinson had a tryout with the Red Sox in April of 1942. Isadore

Munchnik Persuaded the Red Sox to give Jackie along with three other black players a tryout. Just because they agreed did not mean that they got on the team. Sadly Jackie didn't get on the Red Sox, but things were looking up for him even if he didn't know it.

Jackie did great at UCLA. He was named MVP. But then due too financial hardships (money problems) he was forced to leave UCLA before graduating. Even know that happened people still wanted him to play for them.

Jackie was a running back at UCLA

Jackie went to high school at Muir Technical High School where he played football, basketball, track, and baseball. He was a great athlete their. But he enjoyed baseball the most. He was named the regions most valuable player soon after that.

After UCLA Jackie was hired to plat with the

Honolulu Bears. A semi-pro football team. When he wasn't on the field he was working as a construction worker. He returned to California s on December 5, 1941, right after the japanese attacked pearl harbor.

Jackie started off his baseball carer playing

with the Kansas City Monarchs. He played second base and caught the eyes of many

people. Jackie Robinson from that day forward was the first black man to play baseball in that era. But this wasn't only the beginning of his baseball carer, it was the beginning of the end of the color barrier.

Jackie was drafted into the army to a Calvary unit in Kansas. He was then commissioned as second lieutenant. This means he was a commissioned officer that was the lowest rank. Despite the fact that there were many other black officers there was still a lot of segregation.
