Police Roles:

The Roles and functions of a police officer are summarized by four basic principles.

There are three styles of policing that correspond to the four basic functions of policing

1.Enforcing the law

2.Preforming services

1. Watchman Style.

When you think about the work that police do, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Maybe, gun fights and explosions or maybe negative things you hear on the news. It may come as a surprise to many , that police work is very different from what you see on T.V and the movies.

Minority Police officers:

Female police officers hold strong role in policing

The recruitment of minority officers continues to be a difficult task.

Police work is in most cases very different from what we see in Hollywood.

In many instances minority groups see the police in a negative way, the police may hold a symbol of oppression.

only % of officers are female.

The "crime fighter" image is a great obstacle that police face.

Only about % of police officers day is devoted to crime.

In many instances, female officers may have a calming effect in situations that may escalate quickly.

Cops spend most of their time passively patrolling and providing emergency services
