Safe School Ambassadors program is a student-driven program that engages a diverse group of socially-influential students to intervene with their peers to prevent and stop the bullying and other forms of mistreatment they notice.
Five Types of Mistreatment:
- Exclusion
- Put-downs
- Bullying
- Unwanted Physical Contact
- Acts against everyone
Research in Bullying Prevention and Intervention tells us...
- "Outside In" vs. "Inside out" approach
- Mobilizing bystanders is key
- The need to build relationships
to break the code of silence
In the SSA Program, Ambassadors:
- Deepen their knowledge of the five types of mistreatment
- Take action within their peer groups
- Learn proven, youth-friendly things to say and do when they notice cruelty or mistreatment
- Develop trusting relationships with adults in the SSA program and recognize themselves as empowered members of the school community
