Helix Charter High School's mascot and logo

Preforming arts is a great way to get involved in the school. It meets your A-G requirements for high school, helps you to overcome stage fright and improve your public speaking, and teaches you to learn new skills.

Helix players and coaches savor their San Diego Section Division II championship last season at Qualcomm Stadium. (2012)

Important Strategies/ Study Skills

Helix Charter High School

Once Again Helix Charter High School

A Key Reading Strategy?

How Should You Take Notes

Unorganized? How Could I Improve?

Taking notes is very important because its like a studying strategy. When it comes time for a test and you're wondering how you should study, and your notes are there to help you understand the content more.

I honestly think text charting is a really good reading strategy since you pick the main idea from the text and its in your own words that you're understanding. Taking notes really depend on how you take the content in and how well you're understanding what you're learning

One of the first things I learned that really helps with organization is having a binder and a folder. When you have your binder make sure you have dividers because it really helps with just flipping to the class and getting the homework out of your binder. Also you don't have to dig in your backpack and try to find crumpled up homework

Helix as you can tell has a wide variety for their students but to be able to have your privileges like doing a sport etc. you must have a 2.0 or higher. Remember Helix is a school that would love to challenge their student and most of all prepare you for college!!! We hope you attend!

Why Is Being Organized So Important?

By: Nyadoni Chuol and Sydney Torres

With having a folder you can put your tests in there so that when it come to the final exam you have your tests to look back on and study on, because you never know maybe your teacher put in on of the questions from the test onto the final.

"I know it's in here somewhere", a quote said by many students when finding their homework in and an unorganized backpack. When you're organized at school it helps you find you're homework, notes and stuff you need for your classes. Having different dividers for different classes again is very helpful for finding notes, homework and stuff you need for your classes. It's so important because the day something is due and you can't find your assignment you'll definitely regret not being organized.

Why Be Apart Of Aspire?

What's So Different About Helix Sports Than The Sports Offered At My Middle School

Dance

Tap is and aspire club, held after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:30 to 5:30, and on Saturdays from 12 to 3. come to room 900 to join in the fun. It is recommended you bring your own tap shoes.

The year long classes include choir, show choir, and advanced choir. These are great for anyone who loves to sing. even if you are not good at it.

The term classes offered at helix include learning piano and guitar. You don't need to be good at the instrument to play it. these classes are for beginners and advanced.

Beginning Dance

Advanced Dance

Being apart of the Aspire programs is a choice but there's a lot of benefits to it. You could get your homework done, you could get help on anything you're having a hard time with and you can get extra practice with sports after school.

Beginners dance is for the kids who want to join dance but have ever danced before. Here you can learn to become a great dancer. Then, Maybe you could join advanced dance the next year. Beginners dance does not require an audition.

To Join a sport you must have your athletic physical (I'll leave a link). Your physical form should be filled out or done by your doctor if its done by a nurse then get it stamped by your doctor. When you're done take it to the dawg house and get it stamped Also you have to have a 2.0 or higher to be able to keep your sport .

Have you done dance before and really don't want to start over, join advanced dance. Tryouts re over the summer, and they are for anyone who thinks that they are better than the beginners. Once you have tried out, be sure to join the class. That's right, you can take dance as a class. The advance dancers preform at football games and other school events.

Sports at my middle school weren't really offered but in PE we would have little units and play basketball for 2 weeks then change to soccer etc. I feel like high school sports will get you more collage offers and more scholarships so i encourage you to play a sport!

Color guard

Like to move and dance, but don't want to be on the dance team, Join the color guard. The color guard preforms with the band out on the football field during games. You also need to attend band camp at the end of the summer, and it is a class you can take during school hours.

What Types Of Clubs Are Available At Helix

Why Should I Be Excited About Attending Helix

What So Different About Helix Clubs Then The Clubs In Middle School

Whats so different about Helix than my middle school?

History of Helix In 5 Sentences

At my school there wasn't any clubs but I imagine the clubs in middle school are mostly after school. I did have a program were kids go after school and stay until their parents get out of work.

There are many different types of clubs at Helix. Some of the different types of clubs are Academic clubs, Culture clubs, Religious clubs, Service clubs, Sports clubs, and Special interests. "Helix has a variety of clubs to pick and choose from, the club you choose really depends on the type of person you are." said by Mason

In my middle school I had way

more classes but they were shorter

but at helix the classes are longer.

Also we didn't really have any

sports to choose we only really had

PE and there weren't any cool

clubs in my middle school.

Helix Charter high used to be apart of Grossmont High School as some know. The reason why Helix was made was so that helix could have half of Grossmonts students attend school at Helix in the afternoon.

Since the opening of the school many things were outdated and very old so there's so much remodeling going on every year at Helix. Once a "Scottie always a Scottie" as many people say, there are so many traditions at Helix like the bagpipe band in the Autum and the battle for the musket Grossmonts varsity football team vs. our varsity football team.

Helix is a school that is very

welcoming to their students and also very diverse. There

are so many different options to pick and choose from and also opportunities are high at Helix. There's so many clubs,

performing arts, sports, and Helpful aspire programs on campus. Helix is also a school

that takes education very seriously and wants the best for you, so there's also some very good strategies/studying skills. Also if you need any help there is so much support at helix. Like the student handbook says "The success of our student, in and out of the classroom, will always be our number one priority." Another quote from Mrs. Golden is "Helix is a great school for people who want to challenge themselves" which means if you're not willing to challenge yourself then Helix isn't the school for you.
