Oregon Trail Project
Oregon Territory
Preparing for the trip
Who?
We acquired this land from Britain.
I would always wake up at 6:00 with Erik and go hunt for our food. Sometimes, very fewly, I would stay with my sister to keep her safe and warm.
When we stopped the wagon to rest and sleep, we always get robbed. We actually have no idea who it is, but we guess we will soon find out.The Indians
attacked us as well.
The reason I am traveling on
the Oregon trail is because the east,
is getting WAY over populated.
We had a wagon with 2 strong horses. That was
our only transportation. If we walked by feet, we
wouldn't have made it in 5 months. It would have took
us about a year.
What?
When we gained this land, it gave the people from the west have more room to live in.
If we could go non-stop to travel, we would travel about 15-20 miles. We usually get hurt or something bad happens, so about 10 miles per day.
I'm traveling with my brother(Erik) my sister (Alice)
and my cousin (Ian)
We had a lot of difficulties traveling. Our wagon
broke down and that took us 2 days to fix. Also
one of our horses was stolen, and traveling with
one horse was very difficult.
We took a frying pan, tin plates, cups, spoon and forks, not
much bedding, but we still took a pillow and a blanket. Food,
water, a pistol to protect ourselves with, 5 pounds of gunpowder.
When?
The date that we acquired Oregon was June/15/1846.
It was about 2000-2200 miles long. It took us a very
long time because we were in a wagon.
We usually ate fish or bread that we packed, but if we were really hungry we would try to kill a buffulo. We found birds to eat; such as wild turkeys. We didn't have much skills of hunting, so we were lacking on food.
We didn't have enough food for all of my group.
Ian starved so much, and eventually passed away.
Alice and I had enough food, because Erik shared
most of his food with us as well.
Where?
Oregon, Idaho, Washington and parts of Wyoming and Montana.
Other people say the trip takes about 5-6 months long. It took
my group 4 months because there wasn't a lot of obstacles
blocking our way.
I left a lot of things behind. I left my bed, some of my family
members, a LOT of my clothes. I also left tables, chairs and
things I don't use a lot, or I wouldn't need during the trip.
My sister was a cooker and she tried to find water, and my
brother and I were a hunter. I was sometimes a guarder for my wagon, because we didn't want to lose our supplies.
We stopped at a lot of Indian's villages. Some helped
us, and some didn't. The ones that didn't tried to kill
or harm us. We stopped at Fort Bridger, and at last,
we reached Oregon city.
Before Ian died, he was injured bad. We had to cross
many rivers, and he almost drowned. Indians attacked
us several times, as well as the HORRIBLE weather
storms.
Why?
We gained this territory by a treaty from Great Britian. Which said the U.S would control land south of 49th parallel.
My daily activities was hunting and reading a book
that my parents gave to me before they passed away.
Everyday I would read a chapter of the book, and read,
until I finish the book. I also went out looking for logs for our fire camp at night.
When there was bad weather, my group always
stayed in a place that wasn't near any lakes. If the weather flooded the pond, we could have all drowned.
When I set up the camp, we would get out logs, put them in a in a way that makes a circle, and use the friction of two stones to make the fire.
