Overveiew

Detrimental Effects of colonization for Africans

The Scramble for Africa was the invasion, occupation, colonization and annexation of African territory by European powers during the period of New Imperialism, between 1881 and 1914

  • Africa Suffered from the colonization from Spain
  • On the positive side hospitals and medical care became much better.
  • The african economy was signifigantly changed by the Atlantic slave trade through the process of imperialism and the economic policies that accompanied colonization.
  • There was a short supply in mineral wealth because of the high demand from Europe.
  • Africa lost it's own land and independance also, the division of Africa into colonies became very harmful.

Reason for Colonization

  • Economic power
  • Political Signifigance
  • Socail Infulence

Beneficial Effects of the colonizaton of Africa

  • Roads and transportation systems were improved by the colonial empires
  • Hospitals and medical treatments within the country adavanced
  • People were able to become much more skilled because jobs and employment rates increased.

Invasion

  • Spain created treaties to "protect" Africans
  • Europeans tried to take advantages of the Africans and land by making these treaties.
  • African leaders created a military to defend and protect their land.
  • A tactic they used was Guerilla Warfare
