Gnosis

Gnosis

  • What is gnosticism?

  • What are the differences between the New Testament and the Nag Hammadi?

  • Why is gnosticism sometimes seen as an insult?

Alleged relationships with:

Freemasonry

Rosicrucian

Illuminati

Gnosticism:

Literal:'Having knowledge'. People who believe they have direct access to God based on personal spiritual knowledge.

You have to be 'in the know'. It is an insight.

Differences?

Nag Hammadi, much more abstract and philosophical than the New Testament.

Insult?

Gnostics were/are seen as heretical, the are wrong. They called themselves Christians, early church fathers called them gnostics, meant as an insult. 'Oh they think they know it all'.

Why did they exclude this group?! What were they afraid of?
