They discuss the possibility of creating a national association for deaf americans but travel and a common newspaper were a major concern
The New England Gallaudet Association for the Deaf is establihed
History is Made
- Officially became the National Association for the Deaf
- Post-Milan, the NAD's focus was to unite and solve their own problems:
- Fight Oralism & Preserve ASL
- Advocate for better vocational training in schools
- Improve the public (hearing) perception of Deafness

- 21 States represented
- Wanted to be identified as a separate class in American Society
- Elected 1st President of NAD
