The Purpose

The DCF builds on the recommendations in the independent review of ICT in Wales, and Professor Graham Donaldson’s review of Curriculum and Assessment arrangements in Wales.

Reflect on the role of digital media in their lives and their media habits e.g. explore how the media can play a powerful role in shaping our ideas about stereotypes.

Digital competence skills play a powerful role in the lives of children and young people. Confident and creative application of these skills is essential to life, learning and work.

Strands

  • Digital competence will become a cross-curricular responsibility in the new Curriculum for Wales, alongside literacy and numeracy.

DCF 2016 -2017

The Maths department has suggested the idea of creating an enterprise project where participants within groups independently develop elements of a business plan with are brought together through the use of online collaboration tools before giving a presentation as a team.

  • Each department/ area of learning should adopt at least one element of a strand to deliver during the first term.
  • Departments should provide evidence of the strand being taught. (EAS visit after October half term)
  • Each department should nominate a digital leader that will aim to help provide support and clarity to the rest of the department when implanting the framework.
  • Period of playing with the DCF, trying different ideas to see what works and what doesn't.
