Ur is an ancient Sumerian City, Located in Modern-Day Iraq.

THE ROYAL TOMBS OF UR

Ur was mentioned in the Bible as the home of Abraham who was called upon by God in the Old Testament.

When Woolley first arrived at Ur he learnt

that a man who had previously worked

with him would be a foreman during the

exavations of Ur.

After the First week Woolley and his team had

dug two trenches.

and gold jewelry.

Woolley left his home in London in the September of 1922 and arrived in Ur on November the second the same year.

In The Autumn of 1923 they found a courtyard surrounded by rooms. Later they found buildings named E-Dub-Lal-Mah and E-Gi-Par. In the fourth season they found a large amount of houses.

Died: 20 February 1960

He excavated Ur from 1922

for 12 years until 1934.

He was knighted in 1935 for his contributions to archeology.
