Jalen's Senior Project Presentation
Research
Introduction: Who Am I and What Is My Topic?
Product
Internship
- I am Jalen Bright a senior here at Lower Richland
- My topic deals with makeup application with a concentration on those with darker skin shades or higher levels of pigmentation.
- I chose this topic because I aspire to be a makeup artist and I want to specialize in those with darker skin tones.
From my internship experience, I learned to blend in makeup and I will demonstrate this.
I did my internship with a personal mentor of mine, Kranisha Jones. She is a freelance make-up artist. I chose her as my project mentor because we knew each other prior to this engagement so it made it easier for me to get in the swing of things. I was taught various makeup application techniques and how to match foundation shades. I demonstrated what I learned by applying makeup to clients.
- What did I do? I conducted research on the lack of makeup for those with darker skin tones and applied makeup to those with darker tones
- What did I find out? I learned that most brands discriminate against African-Americans because they suspect a dip in the amount of sales vs those with pale and less pigmented shades.
- New knowledge: I learned about undertones and how to spot them out on others to help match their foundation shade.
- I also learned that you can mix shades to get a perfect match for your makeup if need be.

ANY QUESTIONS?
- I learned that makeup should not be used to make you beautiful but for enhancement.
- If given a second chance, I would manage my time more wisely and not procrastinate.
- As I leave high school, I plan to consider this knowledge in my future endeavors as I continue my path towards becoming a makeup artist.
