Pharmacist Verification (F4)

Prescription comes in as:
-eRx
-Voicemail
-Fax
-Hard copy
Every prescription needs:
-Date of birth
In addition to above, All controlled substances need:
-DEA of prescriber
-Address of patient
-License number and relationship from a valid, non-expired government-issued ID (passport, driver's license, state ID or military ID - no foreign or consulate IDs)
In addition to above, All GFD controls need:
-Phone number for patient
-Scanned ID so that a copy can be printed out
Scan prescription
Choose wait time
- Waiting
- Later today
- Tomorrow
GFD or "Good Faith Dispensing"
-For single-ingredient prescriptions for oxycodone, hydromorphone and methadone only
-The pharmacist must fill out a checklist for these and it takes extra processing time
-Scan the ID at drop-off
-Ask for the best phone number to reach the patient
-Inform patient that it takes extra time to fill this Rx and we can call the patient when it is ready
Selling the Rx
Data Entry & Review
Data Entry (F1)
-Done by techs/interns
-Done centrally if Well Experience store
- All previous steps must be complete to sell it
- Some prescriptions have Pharmacist holds on them to counsel (called CAP)
- Some insurances will require that the patient sign for the medication (called Proof of Delivery)
- With every prescription sale we MUST:
- ask for the patient's address
- offer that the pharmacist is available for consultation, would the person picking up like to speak to him/her?
Data/DUR Review (F4)
-Done by pharmacist
-Prescription will not print out until this step is done for first fill and first refill. After that, pharmacist won't need to do this step unless it flags as a DUR problem
Fill
- Count out prescription, package it, label it
- Procedure is different in Traditional v. Well Experience Stores
- Typically done by Technicians/Interns
