King Tut

  • Took the throne around 10 years old.
  • Died unexpectedly around age 19.
  • Exact cause of death is unknown.
  • Restored old religion in Egypt
  • Became famous in 1922 when archeologist Howard Carter discovered his tomb.

  • Changed the religion of Egypt to Monotheistic.
  • Changed his name to Akhenton (Spirt of Aton).
  • Unpopular with the people of Egypt.

  • Expanded Egypt's boarders north to Mesopotamia.
  • Empire grew rich from trade.
  • Conquered many lands = more slaves = new building projects.

  • Rebuilt several temples
  • Became captain of the military at age 10
  • Egypt was very rich during his rule.

  • It was the golden age of stability, prosperity, and achievement.

  • Ahmose led the rebellion that drove them out of Egypt.

  • Became Pharaoh after her husband died

  • Traded beads, metal, tools, and weapons for gold, ivory, ebony, and incense.
  • Also traded for wood (Egypt had very little timber)
  • She brought great wealth to Egypt.

  • 2,300 B.C.E. - Pharaohs lost control of Egypt.
  • Nobles fought each other for power.
  • A new dynasty came to power and moved the capital from Memphis to Thebes.
  • This started the Middle Kingdom
