Jack London's writing style reflects his hardships and opinions in life. In his life, he has to survive through poverty as well as the cold harsh Yukon when he was older. The love he had for his family and life style helped him at first came to a fault. Lastly his independence helped him become a stronger writer and a stronger person as well. You can see this in the themes of many of his stories and novels
To truly survive you must be independent. "They alone moved through the vast inertness. They alone were alive, and they sought for other things that were alive in order that they might devour them and continue to live.” This quote was taken from Jack London’s White Fang. Jack London was independent because he taught himself how to write., as well as supporting himself and his family by working alone.
He used words like alone, free, self-secluded, and control. London taught himself which proves he was free and had total control over his life. He was independent.
The tone of White Fang is matter-of-fact. I think the tone would be matter-of-fact because there is no emotion expressed in the text.
In, White Fang by Jack London, the sentences are both long and moderately long. The sentence type is mostly simple and compound sentences.
Having love and hope inside of you can influence others as well as yourself to believe that survival is possible. “As the days went by, the evolutions of LIKE into LOVE was accelerated. White Fang himself began to grow aware of it, though in his consciousness he knew not was love was. It manifested itself to him as a void in his being – a hungry, aching, yearning void that clamoured to be filled. It was a pain and an unrest; and it received easement only by the touch of the new god’s presence.” A quote from White Fang that represents White Fang’s love that is growing for Weedon Scott (London). Jack London had love in his early life for the well being of himself and his family, so he began to work at the age of 10 to help support his family’s meager income. He also loved his way of life, sacrifices his well being to live it the way he wanted, but died of gastrointestinal uremic poisoning because of it.
Survival is only possible if you have the drive and motivation to live. "He was killer, a thing that preyed, living on the things that lived, unaided, alone, by virtue of his own strength and prowess, surviving triumphantly in a hostile environment where only the strong survive." From The Call of the Wild.
The Call of the Wild has a dramatic tone. The many conflicts and action scenes contribute to this. This theme can relate to survival because of the struggle and conflicts he survived through.
The tone of White Fang would be ominous because there is often danger awaiting White Fang or Weedon Scott. White Fang shows his love for Scott by protecting him from danger like Jim Hall or Beauty Smith.
Jack London uses detailed sentences like he does in The Call of the Wild as well as White Fang. Love is more of a hidden theme in most of London's writing, but White Fang has a strong love and attachment to Weedon Scott as demonstrated in many through his protective actions.
