The beast represents savagery, evil, the dark side, and fear within all of us.

"I painted my face- I stole up. Now you eat- all of you- and I." in chapter 4. this quote represents the savagery within Jack.

"... Fear can't hurt anymore than a dream. There aren't any beasts to be afraid of on this island... Serve you right if something did get you, you unless lots of cry babies!" Chapter 5, which says the fear and the beast are as scarey as your dreams so don't be afraid.

"maybe there is a beast... or maybe it's only us" chapter 5. which says there could be a beast or just the dark side of the characters.

"This head is for the beast. It's a gift."chapter 8, which shows the boys savageness and how they are evil.

In Lord of the Flies, the beast represents Jack because Jack puts fear into the kids just like the beast. Even know Jack is very ludicrous, he is also a savage and yell jeers at the kids. The beast isn't like the Leviathan, but it is within the kids. Yes the beast was just a parachute guy but it also represents the dark side within Jack and the other characers
