The cost to rebuild most of the houses in the Daulatpur - Saturia area was about $1 to $2 million.
Ever since
Ever since the tornado, the Bangladesh area has been under a drought.
Tornadoes form when cool air descends from a cumulonimbus or cumulus cloud and the warm air starts rising up to take the place of the cool air. While the air starts gathering speed and going up and down, it starts to blow in a circular motion. The cloud will eventually get sucked into the circling winds which allows the tornado to be seen. When the cloud touches the ground, or when the cloud is right above the ground, is when the tornado actually starts.
The Daulatpur - Saturia tornado hit on April 26, 1989.
A tornado is measured on a Fujita Tornado Intensity Scale. But due to the poorly built houses, the strength of the tornado was not clear.
