- The Horn (il-qarn or il-qrajna) is an actual cattle horn used as an instrument
- The cuqlajta (or a clapper) is usually made out of wood and has importance to Malta by cultures of Holy Week
A modern day folk band that plays traditional Maltese folk music is Etnika
- use bag pipes and horns
- uses the Maltese musical forms but makes them for a modern audience
Maltese folk music is known as "Ghana" and plays a big part in Maltese tradition. Ghana has three parts to it
- Ghanatal-Fatt (the singer tells a story to the croud that relates to a past event)
- Ghana spiritu pront (a play like song where two singers answer each other in song)
- Ghana fl-gholi (sung in extremely high notes)
