Theology of the Sacrament

Requirements

-Not ONLY for those at the point of death

-Anyone of the faithful who begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age may receive this sacrament

-If a sick person who receives the sacrament recovers his/her health, he can in the case of another grave illness receive the sacrament again

-If the person receives the sacrament, and then the condition becomes more serious, he/she may receive the sacrament again

-It is also fitting to receive Anointing of the Sick before serious operations and as the frailty of the elderly becomes more pronounced

-Disciples carry cross: Disciples share in Christ's ministry of compassion & healing

-Holy Spirit's gift of healing: Some people have a special charism of healing, so as to manifest the power & grace of the Risen Lord

-Christ institutes sacrament of the sick: Jesus Himself had preferential love for the sick on earth and performed many healings, as well as alluded to the sacrament in the New Testament
