Importance of Nature

“The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature

Snow White and Sleeping Beauty

The importance of nature is commonly found in

the Disney princess movies; especially in Snow

White and Sleeping Beauty. Snow White and Aurora are seen in the woods multiple times, and they both have great relationships with animals. The two movies show the harmony between humans and nature.

Favoring Intuition over Reason

“Trust instinct to the end, even though you can give no reason.”

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

A Bug's Life

In the movie, A Bug's Life, Flik is an inventor and is seen as an outcast by the rest of the ants. Although many of the ants thought his inventions and ideas were crazy, Flik still believed in himself and his work.

Nonconformity

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Simplified Life

Self-Reliance

Brave

“Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify.”

- Henry David Thoreau, Walden and Other Writings

“Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson, Self-Reliance

In the Disney Pixar movie Brave, the main

character, Princess Merida, is supposed to

choose a suitor to marry. Merida had other

intentions, and decided to find a way to change her fate. She took matters into her own hands and went her own way. Even though along the way she faced many conflicts, Merida ended up changing her fate in the end.

Beauty and the Beast

Wall-E

Self-reliance can be found in the movie The

Beauty and the Beast. The movie starts with

the song: "Belle". The whole song is sung by

the townspeople, and they are all saying how

different Belle is from the rest of them. Belle

is misunderstood and different, so Belle is

showing self reliance.

Everyone in the movie Wall-E is living a luxurious

life, except for Wall-E. Wall-E is stuck by himself on what is left of Earth. He does his job all day and sleeps all night; during the day he will find things that interests him, so he'll collect and keep them. Wall-E lives a very simple life compared to everyone else in the movie.
