Where did it start?

The national poet of Bangladesh, Kazi Nazrul Islam, was one of the best classical music composers who also influenced the traditional music of Bangladesh.

Music by Kazi Nazrul Islam is referred to as "Nazrul Sangeet" which translates to "The Music of Nazrul."

  • Composed over 40 songs during the revolutionary war against India.
  • Music wasn't mainstream due to his lifestyle, but later became the music of Bangladesh;
  • Traditional/classical music = Nazrul Sangeet
