Legal

The Communist National Textile Workers organized many unions in the 570 mills of Gastonia. Ella May Wiggins and many other women lead the fight for the Loray Mill Strike to ask for better working conditions, a minimum wage, and equal pay for equal work for women and children.

  • Women couldn't vote
  • Lower pay for women workers
  • Husband held legal responisibilities
  • Women couldnt sign contracts, own property, or file for divorce

  • Only able to study certain professions
