Why They Are
Endangered
- Current Population: 1500-7000 mature individuals
- Why Are They Endangered?: Wanted by hunters for meat and for its beautiful feathers. Papua New Guinea has already banned shotguns from being used to hunt. Another reason is selective logging, and development of oil palm plantations, including more logging to build roads, opening up access to hunters.

Their Adaptations
Structural Adaptations
Physiological Adaptations
- falcons usually mistaken the feathers on the pigeons' heads as flowers/weeds; this way, the pigeons can easily avoid the falcons
- both sexes can reproduce a milk that contains chemical composition; this way the pigeons are able to provide food for their young instead of hunting for insects and plants, including being spotted by predators.

Behavioural Adaptations
- drink by sucking up water instead of tilting their head back to swallow; this way takes less time to receive water sources and more time to avoid ground predators.
Their Biome
- Location: Northern parts of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. (Southeast Asia)
- Biome: Tropical Rainforest.
Biome Characteristics
Abiotic Characteristics
Biotic Characteristics
- temperatures estimate around 70-90 degrees (F)
- Lots of water supply (perfect for plant life!)
- richest source of plant life.
- many different unique plant species (scientists don't know all of them)
