Additional guidelines in prescribing required by RA 6675

1.Use generic names in all Rx

2.The generic name must be written in full but the salt or chemical form may be abbreviated.

4. Inclusion of brand name is optional, must be written below the generic name and enclosed in parenthesis.

5. Only one drug per Rx (now amended, 2 drugs per Rx are allowed.

Penalty for medical practitioners who violate RA 6675

1st conviction- reprimand, officially recorded by the PRC

2nd conviction-fine of nlt 2000 and nmt 5000 pesos

3rd conviction-fine of nlt 5000 and nmt 10000 pesos and suspension of license to practice for 30 days

4th conviction-fine of nlt 10000 pesos and suspension of license for 30 days

Generics Act

for drug companies and drug outlets-fine of nlt 5000 and nmt 10000 pesos and suspension or revocation of LTO.

Objectives of RA 6675

Group 2 BSPH4-A

To act to promote, require and ensure the production of an adequate supply, distribution, use and acceptance of drugs and medicines identified by their generic names.

Statement of policy

to promote, encourage and require the use of generic terminology in the importation, manufacture, distribution, marketing, advertising, promotion and dispensing of drugs.

To ensure the adequate supply of drugs with generic names at the lowest possible cost and endeavor to make them available for free to indigent patients.

To encourage the extensive use of drugs with generic names through rational system of procurement and distribution

To emphasize the scientific basis for the use of drugs in order that health professionals may become more aware or cognizant of their therapeutic effectiveness.

To promote drug safety by minimizing duplication in medications or use of drugs with potential adverse reactions.

Guidelines in prescribing to implement RA 6675

1. The name, address, PTR#, PRC# of Prescriber.
