Drive Presentation: The Speed of Light

Where?

Why?

The first recorded place the speed of light was successfully measured was in Copenhagen, Denmark when Olaus Roemer successfully measured the speed of light. But, originally the idea of the speed of light generated from Italy in the early ages.

This topic is studied because it could change technology as we know it. There are still so many things we havn't discovered too. but so far there is only one known way the speed of light can be changed and that is through a space vacuum. A space vacuum is a very open placc in space. if light is travelling through this kind of place it travels faster.

Final Thought

My final thought after researching this topic over the last couple months is that the speed of light can be affected and can change speeds through a vacuum. the speed of light is a very interesting and complex topic.

When?

Although Galileo was the first person to study and try to record the speed of light, he was not successful. It was Danish astronomer, Olaus Roemer who in 1676, first successfully measured the speed of light. his method on measuring the speed of light was based on observations of the eclipses of the moons of Jupiter.

Who?

Some of the main scientists that studied the speed of light consist of Galileo Galilei, Olaus Roemer, James bradley, Hippolyte Louis Fizeau and Leon Foucault. all these scientists had very unique methods on calculating the speed of light all the way from observations on the eclipses on jupiters moons to shining lights into rotating mirrors!

How?

Summary

The speed of light is very helpful and efficient in many ways. Think of it if light was not as fast as it was there would be a delay to everything. turning on lights in rooms, watching TV and other things just would not function right. But if we could change the speed of light and make it faster or slower. we could make things even more efficient.

  • Olaus Roemer was the first person to successfully record the speed of light.
  • The idea of the speed of light generated from Italy in the early ages.
  • The speed of light is very efficient in many ways.
  • The speed of light can be affected through a vacuum.
  • A vacuum is a very open place in space but can be replicated.

Topics That Will Be Discussed

Essential Question

What?

  • My Essential question for drive is can the speed of light be affected and if it can, can we change the speed of it
  • Where was the speed of light discovered
  • When was the speed of light discovered.
  • Who discovered the speed of light.
  • Why is the speed of light important.
  • Can the speed of light be affected
  • How was the speed of light discovered
  • How fast is the speed of light

My topic is about the speed of light and I am wanting to figure out if the speed of light can be affected. My topic is very important because this defines the fastest speed in the universe. My topic has been studied for many years. There are many theory's behind this topic by many scientists.
