Early Life

Political Life

  • He was born on the island of Nevis in the West Indies
  • Worked for a trading firm on St. Croix
  • His employer sent him to the United States becaue he was so impressed with Hamilton's skill and focus
  • During the Revolutionary War, he was appointed to be a captain
  • Practiced law for a while
  • He became a delegate for Congress in New York
  • Few of Hamilton's ideas were included in the U.S. Constitution, but he worked hard for its ratification by the states
