The lynx are so dependent on their prey that their populations fluctuate with a periodic plunge in snow shoe hare numbers that occurs about every ten years.
Diet
Adaptations
About 75% of the lynx's diet is made up of the snowshoehare.It also eats bird,meadow voles,caribou and sometime lager animals like deer. Lynx often store leftover kill by covering it with snow.
Their long fur protects them from extreme cold.Their large well-furred feet make excellent snowshoes especially in slightly crusted snow and allow for silent hunting.
Habitat
The lynx in North America are found in temperate zones. The Canada lynx is present mainly in boreal forests of Canada and Alaska.
