The Lotus Tree

The History of Medicine in Ancient Greece

The Lotus Tree is a mythical plant from which the Lotus Flower comes from. The Lotus Flower is a narcotic and addictive plant that makes the user lose memory. It is used in the movie Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, and in Homer's The Odyssey.

The ancient Greeks were more scientific about healing. They did not pray to gods for good health. They led the world from religious healing and to more scientific means. They used simple potions made from plants as medicine. Patients were given sulfur, saffron oil, or opium as pain relievers. Medicine was a male monopoly and men believed surgery was a last result.
