While Henry Ford had partaken in some wrong actions, overall he was a captain of industry because he perfected the assembly line, made automobiles available to the masses, and revolutionized wages.

Thesis

Henry Ford was an ambitious and eager young engineer who would soon change the way business was conducted in America. He was a captain of industry who revolutionized the world and was another prominent figure that would help build America as a modern superpower. He was not uncorrupted however, his achievements and feats made him well-known and famous. He perfected the assembly line which improved worker's level of efficiency, created the Model T and made it affordable to any person, and he hired disadvantaged people in safer working conditions and raised to their wages to be more fair and equal compared to other industries.

The "Other Side" of Ford

~ Immigrant workers forgot background/ roots = "Americanized"

~ "Five-Dollar Days" famous for being double the amount of pay; however, he used this technique to curb absenteeism

~No smiling, whistling or talking allowed!

~Only paid the highest amount ($2.66) to families with clean homes & to respectable families.

~ Against unions

~Hired Black workers only for the most difficult jobs.

~ANTI-SEMITIC!!!

~Had a secret son

The Model-T was invented with the intention of it being affordable and useful for majority of Americans. The prices ranged from $260-$850. Before the Model-T, only wealthy people could afford cars. The Model-T made transportation for the average man affordable.

Importance

  • The assembly line is important because it allows for faster manufacturing time than by hand.
  • It allowed vehicles to be produced less expensively.
  • Made companies charge less for their product and allowed consumers to obtain a vehicle.
