It is said by a lady named Jan Freeman that duck tape was not used in the 1940's and 1950's that duck was not used.
The formula for Duct tape was originally made out of an adhesive that was stuck to duck cloth. Now it has changed to poly-ethylene resin on one side with still a sticky adhesive on the other.The formula is the only thing that has changed in Duct tape. Also besides the different colors and formual it has no improvements. The poly-ethylene resin is what protects the duct tape from moisture and abrasion. The 3m brand of Duct tape is generaly 180 feet long. with a width of 2 inches
The reason duct tape was invented or thought of was because people in World war || needed and adhesive that was water proof and helped keep things together. No company was brave enough to try. So Jhonson and Jhonson and Revolite took on this task. The reason it was called Duct tape was because it was made out of duck cloth and it was water proof.
Duct tape inspired another company to make something similar that was still sticky but clear. This was called Scotch tape.
