Mission Statement

What is a Memon?

The term Memon refers to a few Muslim ethnic groups from the western part of the Indian subcontinent.

The Mission of the Memon Organization of North America is to act as a Central Organization representing the Memon Community throughout North America.

It will on a non- profit charitable basis; promote and support the advancement, unity, welfare and well- being of all Memons in particular and humanity at large in general.

History

Issues to be Solved

• MONA started in 2004 with the goal of providing public services and being a bridge for the Memon community.

• Remained relatively inactive until 2009 when M. Ashraf Kamdar became president.

• Began to improve community service and outreach.

  • Focusing on the day to day for people.
  • Health care to the less fortunate
  • Help provide council to those with family issues.
  • Give financial aid to those who need scholarships.

Memon Organization of

North America

The primary purpose of MONA is to act as the central Memon community in North America and to promote, develop and support, on a non-profit charitable basis the welfare and well being of all Memons and humanity throughout the world in all aspects of life. The objectives of MONA, among others, to foster better community relations between all religious, social, ethnic and national groups for the good of society as a whole; to promote unity, understanding and tolerance amongst the Memon community; and to make coordinated and concerted efforts to resolve the economical; educational; social; cultural; medical; rehablitation and other problems that may be faced by Memon community.

MONA generates funds in two ways, charitable giving and fundraising. In turn, money placed into one of two funds.

Project Fund

General Fund

The Project Fund is used to fuel MONA's several charitable services,mostly targeting needy families and education.

The General Fund is used for expenses, maintaining the society, and putting on fundraisers. Excess is put into the Project Fund.

Services

Crescent Clinic

  • We will provide continuous aid to low-income and underserved groups regardless of their ability to pay.

  • We will provide health and social services to all regardless of race, sex, religion, sexual orientation, and lifestyle. We will not discriminate against anybody.

  • We understand and acknowledge that health care and well-being is a right, not a luxury, and that this right encompasses all aspects of the living person.

  • We will maintain this mission through constant re-evaluation and efforts to improve our services via introspection and retrospection.

  • Distribute ZAKAT funds to Memon and other organizations in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, who manage Orphanages, Women Shelters and other Welfare organizations.

  • Distribute food boxes to needy families in Ramadan.

  • Help people with funeral expenses.

  • Help people poor and needy families with:
  • Rent
  • Emergency medical expenses
  • Temporary assistance while out of a job, etc.

MONA raises over $100,000 a year that goes directly to helping the community.

1.Screening – for some of the basic health problems such as hypertension and diabetes which plague these communities.

2.Education and Prevention- to help decrease health disparities in the future and to emphasize the importance of preventive medicine.

3.Referral and Follow Up- to ensure that patients can be adequately connected to pre-existing continuity care clinics in Orange County.

Effectiveness

  • Evaluation forms each year.
  • Judge each committee based on what it was supposed to accomplish.
  • See if funding was used to is fullest potential.

Success

  • Judge based on the needs of the community.
  • Have they met the needs of the community.
  • Ultimately, if the community feels satisfied, then they are satisfied.
