The law of the Kybalion

  • The Principle of Polarity.
  • The Principle of Cause and Effect.

The author used a series of images to convey his thoughts.

"The Troxxt attacked in three cylindrical black ships simultaneously: one in the Southern Hemisphere, and two in the Northern. Great gouts of green flame roared out of their tiny craft, and everything touched by this imploded into a translucent, glass-like sand. No Dendi was hurt by these, however, and from each of the now-writhing gun mounts there bubbled forth a series of scarlet clouds which pursued the Troxxt hungrily, until forced by a dwindling velocity to fall back upon Earth."

Author

William Tenn was the pseudonym of Philip Klass (May 9, 1920 – February 7, 2010), a British-born American science fiction author, notable for many stories with satirical elements. Tenn, who wrote science fiction at a time when few writers in the genre displayed a sense of humor. He helped create modern Science Fiction in the 1940s and '50s, when the genre's dominant form was the short story, published in monthly magazines known as pulps, for the poor quality of their paper.

He served in the Army during World War II as a combat engineer in Europe after his discharge he began selling stories to magazines like Astounding Science Fiction.

"Though this story was read aloud during protests by students in the nineteen sixties at rallies opposing our participation in the Vietnam War, it was actually written during and about the Korean War, a decade earlier. My feelings about that situation were really quite simple.North Korea invaded South Korea across the thirty-eighth parallel. The United States, acting for the United Nations (read, please, the Galactic Federation), came to the aid of South Korea, driving the North Koreans all the way back. Thereupon, the People’s Republic of China, with the backing of the Soviet Union, came to the aid of North Korea, driving the U.S. forces back in turn. The entire matter has not been entirely resolved to this day, leaving the country in a kind of military stasis, with armistice and peace talks coming up in a desultory fashion at Panmunjom, the approximate midpoint. The period covered was roughly the same as the Red-Scare years that began with the Dies Committee and ended with the Senate censure of Joseph McCarthy in 1954. As a result, the organized Left inveighed against what it called “Truman’s War,” and urged us to get the hell out of Korea; the official Right not only supported the war but considered it perhaps the most crucial element in the battle against the godless Communists.

When I at last read the story in print, I was quite proud of it. But nobody, absolutely nobody, seemed to notice it. Not even the F.B.I."

Doctor Who: The God Complex

Book by John Ringo

  • Alien contact
  • Post-apocalyptic
  • Language: Alien Language
  • Alien Invasion
  • Anti-War
  • Futuristic

  • The galatic community(aliens) contact Earth to tell them they are engaged in a losing war against a much more aggressive, nigh-unstoppable race known as the Posleen.
  • Unclear which race can be trusted
  • Earth is right in the path of the Posleen onslaught.
  • Diferences: The galactic community are willing to share their knowledge, technology and tactical support. But the supposed allies are virtually incapable of fighting or aggression, and the real reason they want humans is because they are violent.
  • Gibbis and his planet Trivoli.
  • Tivoli was the most conquered planet in the galaxy. It was inhabited by a species of rodent-like humanoids. They were one of the oldest civilisations in the galaxy and simply let invaders do as they wished. Their anthem was "Glory To <Insert Name Here>" and their cities were designed to be comfortable for the invading armies.
  • Gibbis' job was in city planning, working to plant trees in the planets highways so that invading armies could march in the shade.

The Liberation of Earth

Author's Commentary

by William Tenn

William Tenn wrote this during and about the Korean War(1950-1953) as he was against the United States intervention on the war. He later said: "In writing the story, all I wanted to do was point out what a really awful thing it was to be a Korean in such situation. But recently I have come to the conclusion that if I had been a Korean, North or South under those same circumstances, I would very much have welcomed the U.S intervention."

Setting

Plot

Various parts on Earth:

  • France
  • United States: Washington D.C. Rocky Mountains,Iowa, Potomac River
  • Northern Hemisphere ( two ships of the Troxxt attacked)
  • Southern Hemisphere ( one ship of the Troxxt )
  • Ukraine
  • Australia

The story is told from the point of view of the future descendants of the humans, telling the story of their human ancestors and how they were “liberated” to form what is Earth in the present. The first liberation was by an alien race called the Dendi, that told the inhabitants on Earth they where to assist them in their war against an alien race called the Troxxt. Then the Troxxt invaded Earth causing great destruction but becoming Earth new liberators as they told humans how they where lied by their previous occupiers. This cycle of liberation and re-liberation continues until the Earth is left a shell of its former self. In end most of the human race has been killed and the planet is destroyed, as they now have live with the negative effects caused on Earth by the war between the two alien races( the air is contaminated, water shortage, famine).

Climax

When the Troxxt first invaded Earth, they killed a lot of humans attacking the Dendi and the war between this two alien races continue on from that.

Resolution

The aliens leave planet Earth as they discovered it’s not safe to continue their war and so move the war to another place (Aldebaran). There is no real resolution since the war never stops and the Earth and humankind have to live with the negative aftereffects war for many generations to come.
