  • It is more of a mind trick to keep the population ignorant in believing peace can come from war.
  • It also talks about technology and how they have to limit advancements so that control is able to be maintained.
  • Hierarchy society only possible on a basis of poverty and ignorance.
  • Scarcity increases the importance of small privileges.
  • War accomplishes the emotional basis for a hierarchical society.

Chapter Three

War is Peace

  • War is inevitable, but required to make a superpower.
  • There will always be a higher power.
  • Explains the establishment of the three totalitarian nations
  • Explains how each nation is at war but, war is not as necessary because there will always be one superpower

Ignorance is Strength

  • Ignorance is strength for the party not the people.
  • Equality is considered a danger.
  • Collectivism is the secure basis for oligarchies.
  • Technology's purpose is to control the populace.

  • Society will always have a class system.
  • Middle class will always band with Lower against the High Class.
  • Middle class will become High; Low will stay low.
