With the help of Maui, she sails back to Motanui.
To get Maui's hook back, Maui and Moana must travel to the Realm of Monsters and face Tamatoa, the giant evil crab who is obsessed with all things shiny.
The vegetation on the island is starting to mysteriously die and the fish are no longer coming into the reef, and Moana's grandmother tells her it's because the heart of Te Fiti needs to be restored by her. She also feels a calling in her heart out to the water, where she is forbidden to go.
Moana is the daughter of the chief on the island of Motanui, and the first in line to become chief later.
Moana and Maui face many trials on their journey to restore the heart of Te Fiti. One is facing the Kakamora, or coconut pirates who steal things and cause mischief.
While Moana is left on the boat by Maui, she questions her life and who she is meant to be. She starts to tell herself that the heart will never be restored, and that she has failed her people.
While Moana herself never wants to refuse her call to the ocean, her parents tell her that she must stay and be the chief of the island. To please her parents, she complies and plays along for a while.
Maui and Moana are reluctant to leave each other with no certainty of seeing each other again.
