Consumers
**Consumers are Heterotrophs meaning they DO NOT make their own food like plants.
Herbivores = consumer that eats only plants.
Carnivore = eats other animals or meat
Scavengers = specialized consumer that feeds on dead organisms.
Omnivore = eats both plants and animals
How do organisms get energy?
PRODUCER (Autotroph) = Use energy to make own food
Decomposer = gets energy by breaking down the remains of other organisms.
- mushrooms and some bacteria

- feeding relationships among organisms in an ecosystem
**More complex than food chain because animals like to eat more than 1 thing
Energy Transfer in an Ecosystem
- Food Chains = path of energy transfer from producers to consumers.
Organization in the Environment:
- Population = group of individuals of the same species living in same place.
- Ecosystem = community of organisms and their nonliving environment.
- Factors that limit an ecosystem are space, water, and food.
How are all living things connected?
Ecology = The study of how organisms interact with each other.
- Biotic Factor = Living parts of environment
- horse, trees, insects
- Abiotic Factor = nonliving parts of environment
- rocks, air, soil, sunlight
