The Greek Model of the Atom

Differences : Rutherford's Model

The main difference between this model and the Greek Model is that the Greek Model was missing the idea of a Nucleus, which was thought of by Ernest Rutherford, which he found out by figuring out the the atom had a small, positively charged centre.

Who & When

Differences : Bohr's Model

Differences : The Wave Model

Unlike the Greek Model, Bohr's model included the idea of electrons. He figured out that electrons existed and he also found out how they moved around the atom. According to his model, electrons move in definite orbits around the nucleus, and are a certain distance from the nucleus.

The wave model is based off of the idea that the atom has a small positively charged nucleus surrounded by a large area that includes enough electrons to make the atom neutral. This model is considered to be very advanced, and is based off of Rutherford's and Bohr's models.

The General Theory

Democritus' theory behind this model came from his thought of when breaking down matter, there would be something so small, it would become indivisible, i.e. it would be unable to be broken down any further.

The greek model of the atom was created over 2000 years ago by Greek philosopher Democritus, of Abdera.

Pertinent Information

Pictures & Diagrams

There are not necessarily any photos of the Greek Model of the atom, due to the fact that the Greek Model was just an idea or a theory, and a design for it was never created.

This, however, is a picture of a sculpture of the philosopher Democritus, of Abdera.

For 2000+ years, no one continued exploration of the atom.

Aristotle also dismissed the atomic theory as a waste of time and worthless.

Differences : Dalton's Model

John Dalton got his idea for the atom based off pf the composition of air and that he saw that gasses came together as individual particles, which he called atoms. He had basic ideas of atoms of the same element are exactly alike, and that atoms of different elements are different, and a few other ideas as well.

Differences : Thomson's model

There are many differences between all of the models when compared to the Greek Model because it is very primitive. The main difference between this model and the Thomson's model is that Thomson created a possible design for the atom, which looked like a bunch of things in pudding.
